On 13 December 2025, AOTANGO Quintet will present a special International Tango Day concert at Holy Trinity Cathedral in Auckland.
The second half of the evening will feature the New Zealand premiere of Misa a Buenos Aires (also called Misatango) by Argentine composer Martín Palmeri, a powerful fusion of the Latin Mass with the rhythmic passion of Argentine tango. The performance brings together the Auckland Chamber Choir, conducted by Dr. Jono Palmer, with soprano Dr Morag Atchison as soloist. Supporting AOTANGO’s core ensemble will be cellist Matthias Balzat (NZTrio), violinist Lorna Zhang, and violist Francesca Fong.
The evening begins with a free tango lesson and práctica, led by tango instructor Kelly Poon, making it both a musical and participatory celebration of tango’s global spirit.
